LITTLE LEAGUE ELBOW
What is it?
- an overuse injury for
adolescent (usually 9-15 years of age) baseball pitchers of the medial (inside)
ligaments of the elbow, causing pain that progressively gets worse
How's it happen?
- too many pitches for a growing adolescent
- an
overload to the medial (inside) of the elbow, where the ligaments start to pull
away from the growth plate
What do you do
about it?
- stop all throwing, ice, & anti-inflammatories
- treatment, rehab, & return to throwing
program (focused on correct mechanics and slow progression)
- if this is missed, it can be lead to another condition
that causes poor blood supply and bony death & debris that gets caught in
the elbow, called OSTEOCHONDRITIS DISSECANS
